The UK government’s independent Kahn Review has released a report arguing that e-cigarettes play a central role in the UK’s journey to a smoke-free future. According to the report, e-cigarettes are an effective harm reduction and smoking cessation tool that can help the population of more than 6.5 million smokers in the UK get rid of the harm of traditional cigarettes.

Citing evidence from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) last year, the report reconfirms that vaping is at least 95% less harmful than smoking. The report also states that the effects of e-cigarettes on lung function are reversible and that there is no evidence that e-cigarettes cause chronic respiratory disease or lung cancer.

The report recommends that the government should continue to support the development and regulation of e-cigarettes to ensure their safety and quality, and encourage smokers to switch to e-cigarettes. The report also calls on the public and medical institutions to have an objective and scientific understanding of e-cigarettes and not to be influenced by false or exaggerated negative information.

The head of the Kahn Review said e-cigarettes were an innovative and revolutionary product with the potential to change the public health landscape in the UK. He hopes that through this report, it can promote the popularity and acceptance of e-cigarettes in the UK and contribute to a smoke-free future.
